In the late 1970s at 33 Abergeldie Way (previously known as Hannon Rd), Russell & Jill Mathers set up a Horse Motel and retail shop. The idea was for traveling equine enthusiasts to accommodate their horses here and buy their feed while away from home. Evidence of this business can still be spotted today in both the retail and warehouse area where the original floors and markings of the stables can be seen.
The business wasn’t financially viable. The motel was closed down and the store was sold to Eric Betty in the early 1980s. Eric owned the retail store for a number of years until the purchase of the business by David Snowden and a business partner in the 1980’s. 12 months later, David Snowden took over full ownership of the business and grew it to the business it is today. Sadly on May 13, 2021, David passed away suddenly. His daughter Chanel, and her husband Jamie have since taken over the reins to carry on his legacy.
